A new life in the C4 sun: where are the shops, are they still open and how to book

Channel 4’s daytime show A New Life in the Sun is back with series 7 as the program follows three pairs of British people looking to move abroad to set up businesses.

The hour-long show takes place at 4 p.m. every weekday after A Place in the Sun airs. The main difference with the famous holiday home and property search show is that A New Life in the Sun is based on people from the UK who migrate for their businesses.

Since January 3, Series 7 has seen couples start an alpaca farm in France, projects in Italy and Spain, two surfers start a brewery in Portugal, and a French home turn into a spa.

Where are the businesses in A New Life in the Sun?

For episode 12 today (Tuesday 18th January), the businesses appearing again can be found in sunny Andalusia, southwestern France and Malaga.

London couple Franny and Fenton Joseph-Zywicki launch their brand new hotel in Tarifa, Spain, while Nottinghamshire couple Kimmie and Matt Hurley take care of finances in Lot-et-Garonne, France and Louisa Nunn from Brighton plans to open its B&B in Malaga, Spain.

The medieval region and stunning countryside of Lot-et-Garonne, France, set the stage for converting barns into gites for Kimmie and Matt. The opening hotel which will offer yoga and give you “more bang for your buck” than London and anywhere in the UK, is located in Tarifa, which spans Andalucia’s Costa De La Luz, facing Gibraltar.

Louisa’s B&B is located in Estepona in Malaga, Spain.

How can I visit places in A New Life in the Sun?

Franny and Fenton’s business in Tarifa, Andalusia is called Hostal Africa which acts as a hostel, wedding venue and offers yoga workshops.

You can visit the hostel via its address: Calle maria antonia toledo 12, Tarifa. You can also see how to stay at the hostel by checking out its social networks, Hostal Africa on Facebook and Hostal Africa Tarifa on Instagram. The website also states how the hostel has 16 rooms and one apartment, located close to the old town.

Kimmie and Matt’s lodges in Lot-et-Garonne, France, offer craft classes and workshops for guests who stay there. This holiday home rental is called Champ Vieil in Gindou, in the south-west of France.

Casa Florestos, offering vacation rentals and tapas tours, can be visited in Estepona, Malaga in Spain. Their variety of tours can take place every Friday with some every day, from tapas to wine to a floral tour.

Where are the businesses of A New Life in the Sun now?

All three businesses featured in this week’s episodes are still in business today and can be visited by booking through their various websites and social media pages.

Businesses Broadcast Now has been shooting for Channel 4 for two years, as Champ Vieil said in an Instagram post on December 22, 2021. Over the years, holiday home rental in France has grown with regular posts from their day to day in sunny and wintry France throughout the seasons. Le Champ Vieil appears to be still under renovation, whilst still working for bookings, as the windows and doors were attached to the small gite at the end of December last year.

Hostal Africa also continues to thrive, with regular posts of a beautifully furnished and decorated hotel with a “bohemian vibe” on their Instagram and light pastel colors that complement the sunshine in Spain. On August 4, the couple posted how they opened a small shop in their hallway with handmade rugs and cushions from Ar-monia.

Casa Florestos does not have an Instagram presence, but maintains a high rating of 4.5 stars in Google reviews. Reviewers call the vacation rentals and tapas tours “lovely,” despite dating back five and two years now. Louisa updates her Facebook more regularly and shared how a mural of Estepona on their rooftop terrace was due to take place soon after January 13.
